Amina’s Crown

This project is a commission/collaboration with a local artist and designer who is exploring Black Pittsburgh history through clothing. I was excited to take on this project because of the opportunity to use newly developed skills and research a culture I don’t know much about. The focus of my ancestry research has been centered mostly around Yoruba and and Igbo cultures. Queen Amina was a Nigerian Hausa ruler and warrior credited for the expansion of trade routes and kola nut cultivation. More info soon about where to see the full exhibit and the crown.
